One of the most remarkable debuts of the covid-stricken year was released by Ghana-American singer Amaarae. The album “The Angel You Don’t Know” is gathering raving reviews and confirms again that the often ignored Africa produces one of the most exciting music these days. Raised between Atlanta and Accra, Ama has been exposed to a wide spectrum of genres that formed her – you can hear southern r’n’b, ghetto rap or afropop on the record – and her lyrics are a witty comment on current African woman: sexuality, challenging stereotypes and re-defining gender roles. This autumn, Amaarae will embark on her first big European tour, the Prague gig is scheduled on November 22, 2021.
