Open call: Politics and practices of the safe space

The call for Roma visual artists, designers, architects, writers, activists and other creatives living and working in the Czech Republic and Slovakia  is a collaboration between Vienna-based artist Robert Gabris, Display – Association for Research and Collective Practice and MeetFactory Artists in Residence Program. The open call is a response to a continuous precarious state of the arts, culture and activism amidst the global pandemic and post-pandemic world, aiming to support and nurture the Roma creative and activist community. The project's aim is to give higher visibility to artist's, writers, activists and other creatives whose practices are underrepresented in the cultural and arts sector. The prospective applicant will have an opportunity to contribute to the public programme of Display  in the form of workshops, screening, performance, discussion etc. with the full  support of Display’s curatorial team and mentoring by Robert Gabris.

Residency dates:

The residency will take place from November 1st 2021 to January 31th 2022.  
 

The MeetFactory provides chosen candidates with: 

• Studio at the MeetFactory,

• Fee of 700 EUR per month,

• Production budget up to 200 EUR,

• background of the international multi-genre arts center,

• possibility to use the facilities of the residential floors,

• full participation in the MeetFactory AiR Program - involvement in public events (open studios, presentations, workshops) and other activities of the MeetFactory AiR Program (trips, studio visit by curators, etc.),

• networking and mediating contacts to Prague's, Czech and Slovak art scene,

• PR support  through MeetFactory channels,

• production assistance in the implementation of projects.

Display provides a selected candidate with:

• Travel costs reimbursement (for candidates from outside or Prague),

• Curatorial and production support of the candidate´s project and work,

• Professional local and international network and care,

• Space of Display, a fee and a basic production budget for events or other public program,

• PR support through Display channels.
