About:
Alba Folgado is a Spanish curator and researcher based in Uppsala, Sweden. In 2016 and 2017 Folgado was awarded the Botin Foundation grant for curatorial studies. She has worked in collaboration with Moderna Museet in Stockholm, and with Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo in Madrid for the Convention on the Use of Space. Prior to this, she was part of the team of Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam.
Education:
She holds a MA in Curating from the Royal College of Art postgraduate programme.
Selected projects and exhibitions:
Recent projects include the exhibitions Rhythmic Encounters in Chalton Gallery London; I would prefer not to, developed for CreArt in Valladolid; and the radio programme Who Cares? A radio tale in Gasworks, London. Folgado’s practice is concerned with addressing issues of current social and political interest, as well as connecting with critical and non-hegemonic discourses. Currently, she is researching how the structures that rule contemporary cities affect people’s lives, and what responses artists and activists develop to challenge their physical and social boundaries. Additionally, she finds important to explore new artistic languages and their potentiality to connect with audiences outside art institutions.
The residency of Alba Folgado is a part of the project The New Dictionary of Old Ideas.
Date of residency: 4. 6.–31. 7. 2019
