Melancholic downer slowcore of the Chicago quartet Cancer House will make its Prague debut in November, supported by Kailas

The shadowy group Cancer House emerged recently with their debut album The Moth, released – alongside recordings by Perila, Ulla and Hysterical Love Project, amongst others – on one of Los Angeles’ leading independent labels Motion Ward.

Keeyan, Lily, Alex, and Whitney draw inspiration from the atmospheric guitar-driven post-rock of ’90s bands like Bark Psychosis, Hood, Farewood, Bedhead, and The Sonora Pine. However, this is not a nostalgic imitation, but a singular evolution of the iconic genre. Their music crawls out of collective jam sessions, blending post-rock and slowcore tendencies with echoes of post-hardcore, drone, noise and ambient into a dense yet minimalist whole, brimming with fragile tension that never fully resolves. In its omnipresence, this restless unease ultimately becomes a comforting anchor point on The Moth as well as the earlier Cancer House demo recordings.

The evening will kick off with the Prague-based trio Kailas. Eva Porating, Daria Samo and Arash Ghasemi build hazy soundscapes in a compact line-up of bass – drums – guitar, blending sludge-tinged weight, enveloping noise and long-form repetition. On the misty borders of ambient and distorted guitar scenery.​
