Elfriede Jelinek: Shadows (Eurydice speaks)
S.P.E.K., o.s.

For
centuries, the myth about Orpheus and Eurydice was perceived through the
perspective of Orpheus. In Shadows, Jelinek allows Eurydice to speak first, and
it is not by coincidence, because exactly in this moment she sinks into the
silence.
A play by Elfriede Jelinek, an Austrian playwright and novelist who was
awarded the Nobel Prize in literature, is one of the typical post-dramatic
texts – there are no classic situations, it is written in prose like an interior
dialogue, introspection. It offers various ways of interpretation from the producers. The new production will present to the audience three Eurydices. Three
voices emerge from one person and decompose the immemorial myth about Orpheus, who
set out to the underworld, looking-for his woman Eurydice.

The production was created with the support of the State Fund for Culture and the Young Artists Foundation.
