London-based band Good Sad Happy Bad is the current incarnation of Micachu & The Shapes, a project initially founded in 2008 by a trio of brilliant musicians: Mica Levi, Raisa Khan, and Marc Pell.

About a decade later, the trio became a fourpiece, changing its name and expanding the line up with multi-instrumentalist CJ Calderwood. Shades, their first record as GSHB, saw the band reimagine their loose lo-fi sound, entering the sonic realms where echoes of early grunge meet 80's brit pop influences and kraut-art-rock experiments.

“Like the band name, the songs are either good, sad, happy, or bad, and sometimes either slow, fast, heavy, or light, and sometimes cold, hot, warm, or freezing, and sometimes tasty, nasty, bland, or spicy.”

Last fall, the band followed up to their debut (though not really a debut?) with a new LP titled All Kinds of Days, released without much of a fanfare by the French label Textile Records (Joanne Robertson, Jackie-O Motherfucker, and Movietone). Building on instrumental improvisations that each member reworked with vocal contributions, the album is a dynamic, shared storytelling experience. Throughout the eleven tracks, the four musicians's vocals alternate — from Levi's singular hazy vocals to Pell's vivid spoken word — while at times they unite in lush, layered choruses, and meandering guitars that add a spark of communal resonance.

All Kinds of Days delves into themes of loss, grief, recovery, healing, keeping a house together, and the challenges of parenthood, all set against a moody, intricate soundscape. Listeners are pulled through eerie guitar lines, spoken word, ghostly woodwinds, and gritty electronic textures, all disguised within a framework of an unconventional band soundThe result is a vibrant album full of stories, mantras, musings and lullabies, catchy riffs, and slack rhythms — an album intimate and reflective, yet open, warm, and electrifying.

Good Sad Happy Bad take the record on tour this spring, returning to Prague (where they performed in 2009 as early Micachu & The Shapes) after more than 15 years.

„All Kinds of Days is an antacid against the narcissistic bloat of the modern world, a simple miso soup to rock’s towering banquet.“ — Pitchfork

Joining the bill with GSHB is a brand new experimental alt-pop project rivermoans, celebrating their debut album Wet Scores for Listening.
