Jiří Pitrmuc: 15 minutes

The exhibition 15 Minutes by Jiří Pitrmuc at the Kostka Gallery explores the phenomenon of time, especially that which is closely related to our existence - limited, bounded time, defining the length of human life. In order to make practical use of this time, we divide it into smaller units that correspond to our everyday needs. This division, the process of cutting, halving or dismembering, which defines a smaller part of the whole, is used by the author as a kind of measurement by which we can delimit what is difficult to grasp with reason, but which we nevertheless feel the need to deal with in some way. The spatial installation created especially for the exhibition responds to so-called non-places, i.e. anonymous spaces such as airports, railway stations or hotels, which lose their unique character through global unification and create a sense of specific timelessness. Paradoxically, it is in these disembodied transit zones that we are most aware of the passage of time, which can also deepen the sense of alienation.

Jiří Pitrmuc is a graduate of the Intermedia studio (Pavla Sceranková, Dušan Záhoranský) at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (2017–2020). Prior to that, he studied at the Faculty of Art and Design at the University of Applied Sciences in Ústí nad Labem in Jiří Kovanda's Performance Studio (2013 - 2017). During his studies, he completed a study stay at the LUCA School of Arts in Brussels (Project Studio) and at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague (Sculpture Studio). Since 2023, he has been working as an assistant in the Object-Space-Action studio at the Faculty of Art and Design of the Jagiellonian University, while continuing his studies in the PhD program at the Academy of Arts and Design in Prague since 2024.
