The group exhibition of 14 artists inspired by the malleability of memory, pain of laughter, regret and forgetting titled Laughter and Forgetting will last from 8 September until 13 November. The part of the program will be a curator's guided tour featuring in-person presentations by Sarah Sweeney, Dan Acostioaei and Adam Vackar which will take place on 9 Sept. at 7 p.m.
Laughter and Forgetting explores the malleability of memory, pain of laughter, the interrelationship between public and private life, and the deception of human relationships, taking its start from Milan Kundera’s The Book of Laughter and Forgetting written in 1978 and published while in exile in Paris. Laughter, forgetting, the border, regret (a state of torment upon by the realization of one's inadequacy or misery), and angels, the keepers of a truth not to be questioned and dictators of absolutes, are themes expounded in Kundera’s text through repetition, like a musical score, and presented in the exhibition through expanded video and photography projects that reflect these media’s relationship to the construction and alteration of history, elicitation of affective responses, or actual documentation of past experience.
