Jim Jarmusch’s existential psychedelic western Dead Man follows the Homeric journey of a young man through a Kafkaesque version of the American West in the 19th century.
Starring Johnny Depp, with standout performances by Gabriel Byrne, Iggy Pop, John Hurt, and Robert Mitchum. The legendary soundtrack was composed by Neil Young.

This iconic film, now thirty years old, was selected for screening by music curator Václav Havelka.

“If I had to name my favorite film of all time, the answer would undoubtedly be Dead Man by Jim Jarmusch, from 1995. I’ll never forget the day my friend Jindra Hanzlíček and I went to pick up the analog film reel at the train station in Harrachov. It was later screened in the local cinema, which he was running at the time—and where I, a teenage oddball, tried to help him out. My mom came to that screening too, and on our way home, walking several kilometers in the dark, I was so overwhelmed I didn’t say a single word. I return to Jarmusch’s film and Neil Young’s soundtrack fairly often. It’s love.”
