Summer Cinema: DJ Ahmet

“Do you know that to be a DJ… You have to play more than one song…”

A joyful, energetic celebration of coming of age and a reminder that being free sometimes means stepping out of line.DJ Ahmet, the debut film by FAMU graduate Georgi M. Unkovski, has won several awards, including the Audience Award for Best International Feature Film at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.

Life in the Macedonian countryside, dominated by patriarchal and religious traditions, is certainly not easy for the younger generation, and rebellion takes place only quietly, out of sight of their parents. Ahmet, who has only two tasks in life – to watch over his younger brother, who lost his ability to speak after their mother’s death, and to tend to a flock of sheep – one day accidentally stumbles upon an illegal rave party. There he discovers a new meaning in life, which he will have to fight for within traditional society.

Summer cinema returns to MeetFactory for the fourteenth time. A curated selection of eleven films will be screened in the Factory's backyard, as selected by the members of the venue's team. In June and July, the screenings begin at 9:30 p.m.; in August and September at 8:30 p.m. Before the film, the current exhibitions in MeetFactory Gallery and Kostka Gallery can be visited free of charge. A bar is available on site, and admission to all screenings is free.
