Summer Cinema: Babyteeth

When seriously ill teenager Milla falls madly in love with smalltime drug dealer Moses, it's her parents' worst nightmare. But as Milla’s first brush with love brings her a new lust for life, things get messy and traditional morals go out the window. Milla begins to show those around her how to live every minute to the fullest. A fan-favourite that made waves at international festivals, including Venice, where it won the award for Best Acting Performance.

We’re closing the summer season with Babyteeth, selected by Tereza Havelková, the curator of MeetFactory's residency program.

“The Australian film Babyteeth tells a story of defiance, of discovering the world, of anger at its unfairness, and also of an unlikely love. It follows a family coming to terms with the serious illness of its young protagonist, played brilliantly by Eliza Scanlen in her first film role. You’d never guess the film is adapted from a stage play, it’s far too rich in sun-drenched imagery and vivid colors for that. I chose it because it reminds me of a summer that has already passed. Nostalgia is inevitable!”
