One of the most promising filmmakers of the current Danish film generation, director Gustav Möller, proved in his feature debut that creating a suspenseful atmosphere doesn't take much. Specifically, just one police officer and one emergency call.
Asger Holm is on duty at an emergency call center when he receives a call from a kidnapped woman. The call is suddenly cut off, and a race against time begins to save her. Among other accolades, the film was awarded the Audience Award for Best Foreign Film at the Sundance Film Festival.
The film was selected by theatre dramaturg Matěj Samec, who, although he saw the film a long time ago and no longer really remembers the plot, still vividly recalls its unique tension.
“The phone rings, and something gripping begins. I was fascinated by how the claustrophobia of a closed room—where investigators have only a phone to try to save someone’s life—could generate such effective tension, relying on the viewer’s imagination. I think it’s unique, bold, inspiring, and in its simplicity and modesty, magnificent. I often think of it when I’m working on something and need to remind myself that the greatest drama lies deep within.”
