A play based on the anti-utopian novel by Czech author, journalist and film critic Ondřej Štindl and artist Josef Bolf. The remains of human society survive in a dilapidated city, awaiting the New Beginning, promised to them by their charismatic leader Stan. Erik, the main character of the novel, “accompanies” those who are tired of waiting. He´d like his job, if it weren´t for and old romantic melody in his head that keeps coming back. A member of a privileged caste of headquarter officials decides to uncover his true story and find the truth, which can be both liberating and dreadful...Štindl’s prose follows the tradition of a dystopian genre as defined by foreign and Czech classics (Orwell, Dick, Tevis). He also presents an original and well-thought out story about finding one’s own identity and how human society functions. Distinctive, parallel levels of the story represent illustrations by Josef Bolf, one of the most honored artists of his generation, who also took part in inventing the story.
