Open Call: Residency in C. Rockefeller Dresden

The International Centre for Contemporary Art MeetFactory together with C. Rockefeller in Dresden are opening a new call for applications for a one-month residency in Dresden in April 2025 and for participation in Liquid Sound Festival in Bad Schandau on Nov 1st 2025.  C. Rockefeller Center for the Contemporary Arts will host one Czech new media or mixed media artist interested in experiments with sound and / or light installation and will support the artist in creation of independent or participatory project for the Bad Schandau festival. 

 

About C. Rockefeller: 

An independent OFF space in Dresden, C. Rockefeller Center for The Contemporary Arts is a forum, living gallery, community and exhibition space, focused on contemporary art forms. This includes painting, sculpture, photography and the large field of contemporary media art. The focus is on the experimental and conceptual, and the works and intentions of young artists. Art and critical examination are always in the foreground in this experimental space in Dresden's Hechtviertel.

C.Rockefeller Center has run an artist-in-residency program for many years, since 2024 with a new experimental artist space and sound studio in the beautiful hills of Sächsische Schweiz in Bad Schandau, about 45 min by train from Dresden. In the 2025 the international residency program hosts artists in collaboration with Goethe Institut Bangalore (India), Goethe Institut Den Haag and CBK Rotterdam (Netherlands), Treasure Hill Artist Village (Taiwan), MeetFactory (Czech Republic) and others.

 

Collaboration between MeetFactory and C. Rockefeller:

MeetFactory will be hosting German artist with the same goal of participation in the Bad Schandau festival during May 2025. For both of these residencies we therefore welcome artists that are open to collaboration and ideally we would like to support a common project of Czech and German artist for the festival. The Bad Schandau festival is equipped with a sophisticated underwater-sound system and hosts sound or visual based works, installations or compositions. During the residency a media lab in C. Rockefeller Center Dresden and a sound studio in Bad Schandau can be used. The residency will take place from April 1st to April 30th, 2025 in Dresden and from May 1st to May 31st in Praque. The exchange artists can meet the complimentary artist from the partner organisation during their Residency.

 

The residency includes:

• Accommodation in Dresden;

• studio in C. Rockefeller;

• return transport from the place of residence in Germany to Prague in economy class;

• a fixed allowance for expenses related to the residency of 1000 euros per month.

 

Residency dates:

The residency will take place from April 1st to April 30th, 2025 in Dresden.

 

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Demonstrate professional experience in the practical implementation of artistic strategies for at least 2 years (including completed solo and / or group exhibitions, public presentations, concerts, performances, publications...)

• have completed studies, or be free from school for the duration of the residency;

• have a good level of English; 

• be free from professional commitments for the duration of the residency.

 

The application, written in English, must include:

• CV;

• a portfolio of maximum 10 pages;

• a motivation letter of no more than 1800 characters with a motivation for the residency and a project proposal and an idea for its implementation, particularly with regard to the intended outcome of the residence in the Bad Schandau festival. 

 

Selection procedure:

The application will be assessed by a committee consisting of the curators of the MeetFactory residency program, and representatives of C. Rockefeller Center and Netzwerk Medien Kunst.
The committee reserves the right to reject any project without giving reasons for its decision. The decision of the committee is final and cannot be appealed. 

Deadline for applications up to and including February 22nd 2025. Applications sent after this date will not be accepted for the selection procedure.
