Admission to the event is free.
Guided tour of the exhibition and artist talk
The curators of the Other Edges of the World exhibition will guide you through the MeetFactory Gallery space and help you discover the stories behind the artworks and recognize the different paths. From the underground images of crops growing in the black earth (Aliinyk) to alien territories (Lukyanenko), from the search for unknown people in an unknown land (Nasr) to the world of Slavic rituals (Shust), and along the storyline of the development of the capitalist system (Ďurovec) to hierarchies of seeing and perception (Avarzmani).
Eva Ďurovec and Jura Shust will present their works on site as part of the artist talk.
Eva Ďurovec works in Berlin and Košice. Her work deals with living space and fulfillment of life in the context of social, economic and environmental crisis, issues of corporate power and kleptocracy and their consequences for the planet. She creates objects often combining autobiographical texts or diary entries with global and local contemporary issues. She studied spatial strategies at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee with Alice Creischer, Andreas Siekmann and Stephan Mörsch.
Jura Shust was born in 1983 in Belarus. He lives and works in Berlin. Since 2012 he has exhibited at institutions such as the Museum of Contemporary Art GfZK (Leipzig, DE), Badischer Kunstverein (Karlsruhe, DE), Museum of Contemporary Art S.M.A.K. (Ghent, BE), Calvert 22 Foundation (London, UK), Blaffer Art Museum (Houston, US), Management (New York, US), Museum de Domijnen (Sittard, NL), Mystetskyi Arsenal (Kiev, UA), Tranzit.sk (Bratislava, SK), Galerie Arsenal (Białystok, PL) and others. He also participated in the 14th Baltic Triennial, CAC (Vilnius, LT) and the 4th Art Encounters Biennial (Temesvár, RO).
Feathers film screening
An authoritarian father tries to do the best for his family. He makes time for his two older sons every night, and even invites a magician to one of them' birthday party. The mood of the party is jovial, so when a volunteer is needed for a trick, the father is happy to volunteer. But at that moment, something goes wrong and the head of the family never comes out of the magic box again. The family is left with the chicken that Daddy has turned into, and the previously passive mother is forced to take responsibility for the family and undergo a major transformation. Director Omar El-Zohairy says of his poignantly playful film that he conceived it as a poem. A poem about anti-heroes overlooked by the world that says a lot about the reality of contemporary Egypt.
