Six Organs of Admittance

Six Organs of Admittance is the one-man band of American musician Ben Chasny, whose psychedelic folk blends finger style guitar wizardry with immersive drones, chiming percussion, and hazy sonic textures.

After playing guitar for the free rock project Plague Lounge in the late '90s, Chasny formed Six Organs of Admittance in 1998 and the project's self-titled, self-released debut appeared later that year. „Originally meant to be a mystery item thrown into the universe, I had no idea at the time that the words on the cover of the record would become the band name.​“ Various compilation tracks and obscurities followed before finding a longstanding home on Drag City, where Chasny released 6Organs' essential records such as 2006's The Sun Awakens or the six years younger Ascent​. 

In 2015, Chasny finished the development of his innovative chance operation tool for composition. The Hexadic System ​uses a standard deck of playing cards to create parameters for music and language and doubles as a card game (or a musical tarot deck?) aimed at breaking the conventional approach to songwriting. Two albums and one VA came out of using this system, featuring contributions from Stephen O'Malley, Jenks Miller, Meg Baird, and Moon Duo amongst others.

Fast forward to 2024: Chasny has released two full-length records, Time is Glass, the 21st record in 6Organs' discography which marks a return to Chasny's signature atmospheric folk sound; and Jinxed by Being, a collaborative LP created in tandem with the visionary producer and master of dubby, psychedelic electronics, Sam Shackleton.
