Adriana Bogdanova (b.1981, Slovakia) is a visual artist, living and working in Amsterdam. Her body of work spans from collages, and photography to installations and sculptures. Exhibited across The Netherlands and various European cities like Berlin, London, Budapest, and Vienna.
In her work, she mostly uses natural forms such as dead insects, rocks, branches, trees and other objects related to the natural realm, depicting nature and the possibility of discovering relationships outside of aesthetic structures, such as geometry or science. By focusing on these particular relationships, she creates conceptual and abstract notions, distancing herself from the obvious associations and connotations that come with seeing nature. She never makes work solely about nature but instead about ideas of nature, never about things but again ideas we might have about things. Therefore, her work functions like a series of events that are spliced together out of materials, voices, thoughts, desires and symptoms requiring figuring out because it is either a network or a labyrinth. She expresses aspects of the world in such a way that the viewer is stimulated to consider alternative points of view other than the obvious stereotypes.
EDUCATION
In 2008 she completed her education in Fine Art (BFA) at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, followed by her completion of an MA in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art in London in 2019.
