Angélique Aubrit (b. 1988, Belgium) and Ludovic Beillard (b. 1983, France) are the artistic duo that crossroads into sculpture, installation, video, performance and drawing. The artists build environments inhabited by figures in which burlesque narratives and absurd theatre unite.
Their sculptures and the characters in their films and performances represent minorities marginalized by society. They reflect our present day with its brutal and nebulous aspects and highlight the impossible communication that characterizes the human condition. But, for Aubrit and Beillard, however, it is less about presenting a pessimistic view of the world and more about establishing a state of civilisation and highlighting its relations of domination in order to (re)write new forms of collective venting. In their work reigns a neurotic psychic state, close to psychosis, but which would not let itself be observed from the outside, because it concerns both the observer and the observed. Because the duo does not keep the visitor at a distance in its environment. They include him in the malaise as a stakeholder, as if each work were to say to the one who meets it: “this could be you…”.
