František Felix (b.1997, Czech Republic) Prague-based painter who has continuously challenged the conventional boundaries of wall-mounted painting. This persistent tension between painting and space has deeply influenced the direction of his work. Nevertheless, the traditional painting or wall-mounted image remains central to his practice.
Today, František’s approach is increasingly centred on the process of making and engaging with a wide range of materials. Often, an illogically slow or unconventional solution in the crafting process proves more compelling than a faster, more rational one. He embraces a DIY mindset that values function over perfection or beauty, creating a playful “ugly-cute” aesthetic where new forms and visual qualities can emerge.
Accidents and obstacles in the studio are not setbacks, but essential tools—opportunities to slow down, observe, learn, and reflect. Each material carries its own sense of temporality, whether rooted in nature or shaped by human intervention. Similarly, each technique used to manipulate a material creates a unique context in time and space.
František’s current focus lies in designing and constructing spaces and installations that invite exploration and self-expression, while also fostering a sense of comfort and conviviality.
