German artist Kathrin Köster goes beyond traditional work with murals, and uses them as a basis for broader spatial installation. She creates architectural interventions based on site-specific installations.
"My starting point is painting. The paintings, often combined with sculptural and architectural fragments, are mostly shown in installation settings. The installations become the immediate response to the content of the paintings themselves.
One important aspect of the artistic research is the tension between the notions of “loci” and “space”. The work deals with questions of kinetics and physical ways of perception. I consider my paintings as "flexible" and "variable" elements. They become hybrid objects."
