About:
Klara Hobza (1975, Pilsen, Czech republic) is a visual artist who likes to pursue self-imposed, large-scale endeavors.
For the next 25 years, she will be scuba diving through Europe, entering the Rhine River at the mouth of the North Sea until she hits the Main River in Mainz, Germany, through to the Main-Danube-Canal, diving through the Danube River all the way to the Black Sea. Hobza uses her many challenges and encounters along the way as raw material for images and narratives articulated as videos, photos, drawings, sculptures, texts and lectures. Her work furthers the performative and social aspects of sculpture.
Education:
Hobza received her diploma at the Munich Academy of Visual Arts, her MFA from Columbia University in 2005, and her diploma in film at Werner Herzog´s Rogue Film School. She has been exhibiting internationally both in solo and in group shows and has been awarded several prizes and fellowships including: Ars viva/BDI (Germany), Stiftung Kunstfonds (Germany), DIVA (Denmark), NYFA (NY) and SculptureCenter Prize (NY), amongst others. Hobza´s work has been reviewed by numerous print, online and TV media, including the New York Times, Artforum, art - Das Kunstmagazin, frieze magazine, Monopol, Architectural Digest, Modern Painters, Scientific American and Popular Mechanics.
