Lenka Holíková (b. 1984) was born in Cheb, a small border town in the former Czechoslovakia, just seven kilometres from Germany. At the same time, she was too young to witness communism and the Iron Curtain firsthand, her artistic practice delves deeply into themes of history, migration, and the enduring impact of political and social boundaries. Her work often reflects on the emotional weight of the border landscape she grew up in, transforming this into a broader exploration of displacement, conflict, and the search for belonging.
Date of residency: 01.02. – 28.02.2025 / 01.06. – 30.06.2025
RESIDENCY PROJECT
During her residency at MeetFactory in February and June 2025, Lenka Holikova will be working on an installation consisting of two to three large-scale drawings mounted on wooden structures. She will begin by creating small white drawings on black paper, using archival images of the forested border landscapes from her homeland, Western Bohemia, as a reference. These landscapes will then be transferred onto large-scale canvases.
EDUCATION
With a foundation in drawing, Lenka creates visual dialogues that navigate historical and contemporary crises. Her work is rooted in meticulous research and her personal archive.
