Michiyasu Furutani (b. 1975, Japan) a practitioner of movement, integrates improvisation and a transdisciplinary approach to refine his artistic instruments. His artistic focus on adapting to gravity stems from the belief that gravity potentially influences emotions like love and solidarity, even in a static state. With a background in theatre theory, he utilises these affected emotions, employing bodies and objects as tools to construct performances that blend intellectual depth with visceral impact. Furutani's unique synthesis of movements based on Butoh, transdisciplinary collaboration, and theoretical insights underscores his commitment to pushing artistic boundaries and exploring the intricate interplay between our physical reality and the human experience.
