Vienna-based artist Paul Gruendorfer collaborates with Prague based interdisciplinary artists Maria Komarova and Michal Cáb as part of a SHAPE+ residency hosted by MeetFactory. Their collaboration uses different strategies of amplification, real-time processes and resonating objects. Following the idea of sonority as a temporary ubiquitous experience, this set will focus on continuous ecosystems, impulse, tiny sounds and feedback. They will examine sound as a processual medium and pursue the question of sound as a found object and as an event.
Paul Gründorfer develops process-related systems and explores variable or unstable conditions within the occurrence of sound when exposed to amplification, feedback and plural signal streams. His works focus on processes that evolve in a social space, where sound is considered a found object and event, that directly relates to, influences and reflects the environment. They deal with the instability of systems, questioning the role of control and reaction, and researching mechanisms of hidden signals. He's working primarily with site specific intervention, sound sculpture and performance.
Maria Komarova is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice is situated on the borders of performing arts, scenography, sound and installation art. She is interested in creating spatial settings that foster a sense of curiosity and attention toward everydayness. By staging and technically repurposing commonplace objects, Komarova’s works emphasize materiality and creative capacities of the non-human world. Working with sound as a performative medium, she continuously develops DIY electro-acoustic objects and lets them temporarily inhabit the sites of performances and installations. During the past years, her work has been presented internationally at such festivals and venues as Oscillation, Archipel, Rewire, Reveil, Sonic Acts, Lisboa Soa, Ear to the Ground, Barents Spektakel, STUK among others. Komarova is a cofounder of a Prague-based association di.pole, z.s., theatre collective PYL and Performensk festival (formed in Minsk, currently in exile).
Michal Cáb is a sound and multimedia artist based in Prague, Czech Republic. His artistic practice is centered on the mediums of noise improvisation, programming and the construction of specific audio visual instruments, while he also utilizes and teaches about open-source technologies. Michal finished his Ph.D. at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (Studio of Intermedia Work III / Tomáš Vaněk School) which was focused on the use of programming languages as a basic artistic tool and the use of the programming language Pure Data in different artistic contexts. Occasionally he collaborates with other artists who work in the mediums of theater and visual arts. Michal is part of the livecoding band k-o-l-e-k-t-i-v.github.iohttp://ticho.multiplace.org/
