Roni Hajaj (b. 1976, Beer Sheva) is a Tel Aviv–Yafo–based artist working across sculpture, painting, collage, sound, and installation. His sculptures and installations transform spaces by reworking, rearranging, or intervening in them through the temporary placement of found materials. While minimalist and abstract in form, his works draw on symbolic archetypes and operate within their own internal systems of logic.
Using raw materials such as felt, foam, iron, wax, and rubber, alongside ready-made objects, he composes spatial arrangements that often employ mirroring, fragmentation, and repetition to destabilize existing forms. His immersive environments redefine the interaction between objects, sound, and audience, with the interplay of physical and auditory elements serving as a lens to explore themes of identity, gender, and displacement. Intimate and bodily in scale and in reference, the works reflect on transformation while challenging notions of stability and permanence.
Residency dates: 1. 9 – 30. 11. 2025
RESIDENCY PROJECT
During the residency, Roni Hajaj intends to develop a new body of work that combines locally sourced found objects and ready-made materials to further explore the relationship between sound, sculpture, and space. Sound—shaped by both analog and electronic instruments—will serve as the primary guide for spatial composition and movement within a site-specific, action-responsive, and process-oriented installation. The work will also incorporate recordings of Prague’s urban acoustic environment, weaving them into the physical structure of the piece.
