Samuel di Gianni

Samuel di Gianni (b.1997) is a French and British artist based in France. Born in the south-west of France, he studied in Caen’s School of Arts and Media, graduating in 2022. He also studied Art and Art History during a semester abroad at Sheridan College, in Toronto’s suburbs in Canada. His work unfolds at the intersection of installation, drawing, vernacular photography, and poetic writing. Grounded in a deeply personal mythology—blending childhood superstitions, intimate memories, and metaphysical reflections—his work weaves analogical layers that invite viewers into atmospheric, non-linear narratives. By merging fragmented images and texts then using these fusions as matrices for his work, he builds immersive environments that unsettle familiar interpretations, exploring notions of memory, animism, alchemy, magical thinking, and the uncanny.

RESIDENCY PROJECT

During his upcoming residency, he plans to pause and rethink his practice of painting, drawing and image creation in general, using the experience to refresh and redefine his visual approach, as well as pursuing his practice of writing. Additionally, he intends to pursue self-guided research into alchemy, honoring Prague’s mystical legacy in a personal, exploratory way.
