Hilla Toony Navok is an Israeli artist based in Tel Aviv
whose practice encompasses drawing, sculpture and video.
In her monumental yet fragile sculptures, made out of
functional ready made objects, Navok reveals traces of high Modernism and
abstraction embedded within everyday surroundings - including public
spaces, mass-produced home decor, and popular consumer items.
The resultant works expose the fantasies and promises which
are concealed within the very concept of design.
In recent years Navok exhibited extensively in Israel and
abroad main venues including: Center for Contemporary Art Tel Aviv, Haifa
Museum of Art, Artlv, Tel Aviv Biennial, Herzliya Biennial, Petach Tikva Museum
of Art, Rockefeller Museum Jerusalem, Noga Gallery Tel Aviv, MeetFactory
Prague, Local 30 gallery Warsaw, Neues Museum Weimar, Art Cologne fair in a
special solo project (New positions) and Redtory Art Center Guangzhou, Hit
gallery Bratislava.
Navok received The Givon Prize for Young Artists from The
Tel Aviv Museum in 2011, and the
Creative Encouragement Award from
Israel's Ministry of Culture in 2012.
She recently completed a year long residency at Artport in Tel Aviv.
In addition she
co-curated the 2009 Herzliya Biennial of Contemporary Art and was co-editor of
the art magazine Picnic Magazine.
