Yana Bachynska/Jan Bačynsjkyj (b. 1991) is a Ukrainian artist and curator working with film, text, and textile. His practice focuses on memory, disappearing cultural heritage, and the reconfiguration of personal and collective narratives under conditions of instability. He is particularly interested in how intimate materials and historical references operate as witnesses to continuity and endurance across generations. Jan is a co-founder of Queer.War.Archive
Residency dates: 1. 2. – 26. 2. 2026
RESIDENCY PROJECT
During the residency, Jan will work on the preparation of a large-scale installation intended for the Biennale Matter of Art. The project brings together multiple works created between 2022 and 2026 during the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, including textile bas-reliefs and textual fragments. Conceived as a single spatial composition, the installation reflects on continuity, fragmentation, and the persistence of personal and collective narratives over time.
