Angelus/Orr: artist talk + Elizabet Orr: MT Rush | AT DISPLAY

Ke Sklárně 3213/15, Praha MeetFactory

27. 4. 18:00

The talk with Elizabeth Orr and Micah Angelus, who are going to present their first large-scale collaboration on 28th of April in the Gallery Kostka. The exhibition is based on their mutual interest in the research of Czech monuments and public sculptures. Elisabeth Orr is also going to present  her movie - MT Rush.

About the movie:

MT RUSH is a 40-minute video directed by the artist Elizabeth Orr in 2016. The video is  presented as a near-future science fiction story, chronicling the day-to-day activities of a lesbian Mt. Rushmore Park Ranger as she navigates an onslaught of interactive fundraising emails that appear on a transparent interface, leading up to the 2016 Presidential election. The narrative arc of the movie is based on the urgent, alarmist, and oddly personalized campaign and fundraising emails from the Democratic  and Republican parties (i.e. Hillary Has Been Emailing You… or WE QUIT: but we don’t want to quit). Serving as both narrator and foil for the ranger, the emails perform as the pervasive political rhetoric in today’s systems of governance; while also acting as a meditation on the National Park Service and politics.

Micah Angelus (b. 1980 New Mexico) lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. For the past two years he has split his time between his studio in the Czech Republic and New York City. Micah has recently shown with SORT in Vienna, and holds a BFA from The New School, in New York.

Elizabeth Orr (b. 1984 Los Angeles, CA,) lives and works in Brooklyn, NY). She is a filmmaker and an artist. Her work has been shown internationally, including Artists Space Books and Talks, The Stedelijk Museum, Anthology Film Archive, Recess, ICA Philadelphia, and she has been commissioned by MOCAtv and the Carpenter Center at Harvard University. She holds an MFA from Bard College Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts.
