The Landscape of Absence • Jiří Pitrmuc: 15 Minutes | Openings

On Tuesday 28 January we cordially invite you to the opening of the first exhibitions of the new year. The group exhibition The Landscape of Absence (curated by Ján Gajdušek, Tereza Havlovicová) will open at the MeetFactory Gallery, while Jiří Pitrmuc will present his solo work in the installation 15 Minutes (curated by Ján Gajdušek) at the Kostka Gallery.

The Landscape of Absence presents imaginary spaces of a future world in which man as a specific biological entity has disappeared, although traces of his presence still permeate the surrounding ecosystems and the remains of technological infrastructures. This moment, when the human species failed in its role as a sustainable steward of the planet, becomes the starting point for exploring new metamorphoses of the universe. The exhibition project is based on the idea of posthumanism and is inspired by the reflection on the transgression of the boundaries between man, animal, machine and natural processes.

The exhibition 15 Minutes by Jiří Pitrmuc at the Kostka Gallery explores the phenomenon of time, especially that which is closely related to our existence - limited, bounded time, which defines the length of human life. In order to make practical use of this time, we divide it into smaller units that correspond to our everyday needs. This division, the process of cutting, halving or dismembering, which defines a smaller part of the whole, is used by the author as a kind of measurement by which we can delimit what is difficult to grasp with reason, but which we nevertheless feel the need to deal with in some way.
