MUSIC
Varg (SE)
Over the last few years, Varg, the main alias for producer Jonas Rönnberg originally from northern
Sweden, has manifested himself, not only as one of the most
productive new voices in European electronic and techno music - with countless
releases and projects - but also as one of the most interesting of the lot.
Completely free from any concern of genre notions towards his music, he moves
freely from ambient and drone to experimental techno and draws from the
Nordic black-metal aesthetics. He performed at such prominent festivals as
the Poland’s Unsound, Berlin Atonal or Insomnia
festival. The latest entry to Varg’s Nordic Fauna series – Gore-Tex City,
received a positive review in the Pitchfork online magazine. Besides his
performing career, Varg runs the Stockholm-based dark techno label Northern
Electronics alongside fellow Swedish producer and DJ Abdulla Rashim.
Lišaj (CZ)
Lišaj is a
Czech musician whose sound is based on droning mixtures of field recordings
infected by slow beats, lo-fi sampling and liquid genre motion. His first
release, called Szara,was
built as a construction made from field recordings gathered on the Hel
peninsula with an attempt to “dig a tunnel between the noise and the voice”. It
was released on the consonant label Genot Centre.
Maoupa Mazzocchetti (BE)
Brussels-based Maoupa Mazzocchetti debuted
on Unknown Precept with a cryptic dispatch from the brink of hardwave and
minimal electronics, experimenting with thick quakes, paranoid tones, and
caustic drum machine welts. Call it what you will, Maoupa’s vicious industrial
terror adds sex appeal to discomfort for when the dance floor turns ugly.
Sugar (DK) - DJ set
Sugar is 1 of the 2 founders of the Copenhagen based Fast Forward
Productions; an organization presenting a new take on DIY rave culture where all events is build from the ground
up, focusing on a quality artistic profile, a strong social and political
engagement within Copenhagen´s local scene, and on collaborating with
like-minded crews and concepts from abroad..
His
musical background springs from more than a decade with punk and metal music,
transitioning into harder electronic music and techno in recent years on both
sides of the booth. Sugars DJ sets are focused around a broad variety of old
and new hard, funky percussive techno.
Varg, Maoupa Mazzocchetti and Lišaj are in 2017 part of SHAPE, a platform for emerging music and sound artists supported by European Union's Creative Europe programme. Synapse Knowledge is kindly supported by a grant from Czech Ministry of Culture.
