Being lost – literally lost  emotionally lost, lost in a smashed psychological dimension beyond your control, being overwhelmed by the weight of one’s insignificance in the face of time, space, life and death and pointlessly railing against what does not notice, let along care about you.

Like 13" Frank Beltrame Italian Stiletto with Bison Horn Grips?

Xiu Xiu are set to release their fourteenth studio album this fall. Nine brand new songs to seal the deal with those who will still listen to an album from start to finish, because an album is a message that can't be read piecemeal. The elemental Californian band, founded in 2002 by Jamie Stewart and currently also featuring multi-instrumentalist Angela Seo, tackle the most visceral of human feelings and emotions in their dense, multilayered work.

Stewart's raw and experimental singular songwriting style is impossible to pin down. His sharp and dynamic lyrical style holds a mirror to the often harrowing reality of human existence, loneliness, fear, violence or death, amidst angular guitar riffs, chromatic melodies, shattered electronics, (avant-)pop synthesizer lines and dark, ambient sonic textures. Somehow within all of this, cuteness attempts to find a way to embrace death and horrible emotion.

The band is bringing their new record 13" Frank Beltrame Italian Stiletto with Bison Horn Grips to Prague as part of their upcoming European tour on Thursday 28th November.

Evicshen, the project of sound artist, experimental music performer, and instrument-maker Victoria Shen, will open the night. Shen's sound practice is concerned with the spatiality and physicality of sound and its relationship to the human body, utilizing analog modular synthesizers, vinyl and resin records, and self-built electronics. Eschewing conventions in harmony and rhythm in favor of extreme textures and gestural tones, Shen uses what she calls chaotic sound to oppose signal and information, eluding traditionally embedded meaning.
