Catherine Murray

Catherine was born in Cork Ireland where she lives and works. The work comments on modern constant thirst to acquire. This creates a cycle of lack and desire resulting in a combination of what will define our society in the future. The concept is investigated from an archaeological/environmental perspective. This culture may have moved us from the Holocene geological period which encompasses the impact and growth of the human species, to the Anthropogenic epoch denoting man’s permanent mark on the earth. Taking inspiration from our world which is a rapidly changing environment, many aspects of our values and way of life inspires her work. She is multidisciplinary artist, but given the space and opportunity Icreate theatrical and ritualistic installations that resonate with a sense of tension and ceremony. Recently she has been interested in how food is political, social and environmental and our relationship to it as a society.

Education:
Catherine graduated with first class honours from The Crawford College of Art and Design Cork, Ireland in 2018. She received a post graduate residency award in the Sculpture Department of The Crawford College of Art and Design 2018/2019 and she was selected to apply for RDS Visual Arts awards and was subsequently short listed. She has reached stage 2 of the Undergraduate Awards 2018. Her practice is multidisciplinary ranging from installation, drawing, painting and print.
