Jakub Roček & Marie Lukáčová

In case of Jakub Roček and Marie Lukáčová, the crucial medium is video, understood from a different position by each. Jakub’s main focus is popularizing present-day scientific knowledge,which he transfers into virtual environment by means of 3D technologies, while Marie explores mainly the possibilities of placing individual social statements and attitudes in the video, dealing also with the nature of its distribution. However, in the moments of cooperation, this situation changes. Seemingly incompatible topics: cultural and political criticism from a leftist point of view on the one hand and a scientific and technological materialism of physical world on the other – their synthesis leads to complex video projects where physical world encounters the man-made, social one. Burning cultural issues are suddenly not viewed through the lenses of humanities, which regularly diminish and diffuse all that is essential in a plurality of expression and relativity of viewpoints. Instead of soft subjective criticism towards the world of objects a comparison occurs which finds its place and interpretation framework in exact sciences.
