Katharina Stadler (AT / GE)

About:

Katharina Stadler (1981) is a Vienna born conceptual artist and writer. Since 2010 she is based in Tbilisi, Georgia. She is interested in and working in the fields of conceptual art and critical theory.
Katharina works process-based, interdisciplinarily and with different media on discourses of ideology and politics connected especially to the notions of new forms of colonialism and imperialism as well as the question of limits of consciousness through social mechanisms and other determinants.
In addition she is engaged in collaborations often focusing on practices of solidarity and collectivity.
Since she trusts in the strength of raising questions rather than giving answers, she tends to create situations of rupture as to trigger an interaction with and not a mere consumption of her work.

Education:

Katharina Stadler studied Music, Theater and Cultural Communication studies at Humboldt University in Berlin, graduating in 2007 with a thesis on the interconnection and opposition of voice and silence as worship in Augustine’s writings. In 2019 she is starting her PhD at The University of Art and Design in Linz with a project 'on sound & ideology', supervised by Prof. Dr. Robert Pfaller.

Exhibitions:

Her works were presented at various exhibitions, e.g. at the State Silk Museum, Tbilisi (GE), Patara Gallery, Tbilisi (GE), the Zeta Center for Contemporary Art, Tirana (AL), Onomatopee, Eindhoven (AL), Constitution Hill, Johannesburg (SA), Villa Arson, Nice (FR), Gallery Nectar, Tbilisi (GE) and others.
Additionally she has created site-specific interventions in Bishkek (KZ), Gl. Rye (DK) and other places.

The residency of Katharina Stadler is a part of the project The New Dictionary of Old Ideas.
