On Sunday 29 September, we bid farewell to the exhibition Shapeshift Spaceship at MeetFactory Gallery, and Olbram Pavlíček's solo installation rigged CRASHTEST at Kostka. The first exhibition will be presented during a guided tour by curator Šimon Kadlčák.
From 2 pm, MeetFactory's residency floor opens its gate to public. The works of A-i-R programme's current residents will be introduced by the programme's curators Kateřina Pencová and Piotr Sikora in two guided tours. At 5 pm, we are hosting a performance of Japanese artist and MeetFactory's resident Michiyasu Furutani. At 7:15 pm Darrell Jónsson introduces his project Urban Space Epics. The evening will round off with Canadian artist Julie E. Dyck's Bath Opera.
The event is free of charge.
The Shapeshift Spaceship project establishes the emancipatory artistic genre of transfuturism and shapes a science fiction vision of an interplanetary utopian queer future free from inequality, oppression and prejudice. The main outputs of this interdisciplinary speculative project are the exhibition at MeetFactory Gallery, the accompanying publication Shapeshift Spaceship: Notes and the music compilation Shapeshift Spaceship: Sol𖤓 Sys𖤓 Sessions.
Shapeshift Spaceship: Notes
In addition to the titular introduction of the project's ideological background in the text by Šimon Kadlčák, the publication includes an overview essay on the history of queer science fiction by Boris Hokr, an interview between Elijah Plíhal and Neptune Marouš explaining the concept of transnormativity and related concepts, manifests of synthetic bodies by Lenka Veselá and collective becoming by Anthr0morph, a text collage from the work of John C. Lilly by Sara Märc, and author's input from Pluskolektiv+ with Annn Klusák and Celestyn Stohr.
The publication is available for purchase at MeetFactory.
Shapeshift Spaceship: Sol𖤓 Sys𖤓 Sessions
The central motif of the Shapeshift Spaceship project - emancipation through the transformation of one's own shape - has an age-old parallel in music: it too uses the principle of constant ephemeral changeability rhythmed by repetition to create its own elusive passing beauty with the extraordinary ability to transform human emotions along with it. The possible maximum of intoxication from music is a state of ecstatic rapture, a transformation directly experienced through the moving body, coupled with an awareness of the expanded nature of existence as an indivisible interconnectedness of all its parts.
